About the Truckee River Foundation

The Truckee River Foundation is a Nevada non-profit corporation. Chartible gifts may be made to the Truckee River Foundation's charitable fund at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada. The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit.

The TRF is governed by a board of directors chosen for their commitment to the community and contribution of specific expertise and skills. Administrative and operational definition is established in filed by-laws and articles of incorporation with the state of Nevada and a Fund agreement with the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

Board of Directors

Jim Litchfield, Director, is a surface water hydrologist specializing in river and stream projects around the western U.S. Jim lead the design and construction of the Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield in downtown Reno. He continues to pursue opportunities to enhance whitewater recreational in our region in both constructed venues and athletic development in the community. He learned to kayak on the Truckee River over 12 years ago and continues to enjoy river trips with his family and friends around the west. Jim graduated from the University of Nevada with degrees in Geology and surface water Hydrology.

Craig Schriber, Director, is a Realtor ® with Dickson Realty in Reno. He has been actively involved in the community for over 20 years and has in the past served as President of WIN; President of the Rotary Club of Reno – Central; and as a board member of EDAWN; the Reno Philharmonic; as well as charter secretary of the UNR Women's Wolfpack BoostHers club. He currently serves as a member of the Lieutenant Governor’s Whitewater Steering Committee and the Nevada Land Conservancy Advisory Board. Craig’s recreational passions include whitewater and flat-water kayaking; back country and telemark skiing; mountaineering and hiking.

Debbie Leonard, Director, is an attorney at McDonald Carano Wilson LLP. She works primarily in the areas of water and natural resources law. Debbie has an undergraduate degree in zoology, with a focus on aquatic ecology. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Debbie was a science teacher, where she focused on getting her students excited about studying the natural world. Debbie has been a recreational kayaker for 14 years and has been lucky enough to paddle rivers all over California, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska as well as Costa Rica and Chile. She is thrilled that the Truckee River Whitewater Park is walking distance from her office and looks forward to working to enhance the recreational, economic, and community benefits that the river can provide for the Truckee Meadows.

Lynn Zonge, Director, is a river enthusiast and has lived and kayaked in the local area since 1989. During this time, she has been an active member of the Sierra Nevada Whitewater Club and helps to organize the club’s annual Truckee River Races. She was a primary author of the Truckee River Recreation Plan prepared for the Nevada Commission on Tourism completed in 2001. She has worked as a commercial river guide in the Grand Canyon, Mexico, and Guatemala and is currently is a fluvial geomorphologist with Resource Concepts, Inc. in Carson City. She is most interested in promoting athletic development and river safety programs on the Truckee River.

Toby

Toby M. Ebens Toby M. Ebens is a supervisor for the City of Sparks' storm water and sanitary sewer pretreatment program. He began his career with Sparks 15 years ago by collecting water quality samples on the lower Truckee River after returning from Montana State University with a degree in Microbiology. His involvement in protecting the Truckee River continues today as his current position entails spill response and enforcement of Federal (Clean Water Act), State and local environmental regulations. Toby began white water kayaking on the Truckee River ten years ago and has been fortunate enough to allow his passion for the sport to take him all over the world. He has been instructing kayaking and raft classes for the University of Nevada, Reno for the past eight years and, when not in his boat, Toby enjoys skiing, backpacking, climbing and mountain biking. Sharing his experience and passion for the outdoors with the local community is one of his most rewarding endeavors.
